Eliminate Human Error with a Pill Counting Scale

Published on: 07.09.2013

In every profession, the potential for human error exists to some degree.  No matter how well-trained and experienced pharmacists are, it’s always possible for a slight slip-up to happen.  Unfortunately, pharmacy is unlike other professions in that small human errors can have very severe consequences for patients.  That’s why we at TorbalRx have dedicated ourselves to the creation of pill-counting machines that will eliminate the risk of the most common types of errors.

  • Choosing the wrong drug.  Sometimes, a pharmacist will misread the name of the drug or accidentally pick up a drug with a similar spelling that’s next to the right one on the shelf.  To prevent this, our pill counters have barcode readers that check to ensure the prescription you’re filling is the one prescribed before you fill the vial.
  • Cross-contamination.  Old-fashioned manual pill counters come into direct contact with the pills, which means they must be thoroughly wiped down after each usage in order to prevent cross-contamination.   In busy pharmacies, this step can become hurried and less effective.  Our pill counters only come into direct contact with the vial, so they don’t have to be cleaned every time and there’s no risk of cross-contamination.

With a pill counting scale, it’s possible to eliminate most of the potential for human error within a pharmacy.  Pill counters also speed up the time it takes to fill a prescription – our pill counters take approximately three seconds to finish counting after you’ve poured the pills into the vials, which is much faster than counting by hand.  Improving speed and accuracy in a pharmacy allows pharmacists to assist their patients with greater ease.  For more information about the benefits of Torbal's pill counters, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
